Project launch CO₂ infrastructure requirements in Bavaria

The vbw (Vereinigung der Bayerischen Wirtschaft e.V.) has comissioned FfE for a study to analyze the future CO2 infrastructure requirements in Bavaria. Here, unavoidable emissions are to be identified and a possible use and storage of the captured CO2 is to be analyzed. The site-specific identification of CO2 quantities is the basis for the demand analysis of a future CO2 pipeline network in Bavaria.

As described in the scenarios of the “Bayernplan Energie 2040”, switching to greenhouse gas neutral energy sources as well as efficiency increases have the greatest influence on the achievement of the climate targets. Nevertheless, there will be a part of unavoidable CO2 emissions, especially in the cement and lime industry, where Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) will be necessary for greenhouse gas neutrality in Bavaria. The study will analyze the associated need for a CO2 infrastructure in Bavaria and will serve as a scientific basis for the development of a Bavarian carbon management strategy.
