Product Carbon Footprint & Life Cycle Assessment: Evaluation of the environmental impact of products and processes

Regulations such as the EU Taxonomy or the Battery Regulation and increasing interest from customers and investors are driving the importance of the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in the corporate context. LCA enables the scientific assessment of environmental impacts of products and services throughout their entire lifecycle – from “cradle to grave.” We support you on your path to comprehen-sive sustainability accounting.

Our offer

Based on your specific needs, we first define the goal and scope of the LCA study. Together with you, we collect the necessary energy and material flows and then calculate the environmental impacts of your product. The results provide a comprehensive understanding of ecological effects, identify key levers for optimization, and enable fact-based sustainability communication with stakeholders. We prepare a standards-compliant report for you and support an independent review of the results.

Our services at a glance:

  • Product Carbon Footprint according to ISO 14067 & GHG Protocol
The PCF assesses the climate impact of a product over its entire life cycle. Similar to the Corporate Carbon Footprint, the focus is on greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure synergies between product- and company-level accounting.
  • Life Cycle Assessment according to ISO 14040 / ISO 14044 & Product Environmental Footprint (PEF)
The LCA captures and evaluates all material and energy flows along the product life cycle. Unlike the PCF, all relevant environmental aspects are considered for a holistic assessment.
  • Prospective Life Cycle Assessment
In order to make sustainable decisions, future developments must be taken into account. Traditional LCAs have limitations as they rely on historical data. Prospective LCA approaches enable the modeling of future environmental impacts, support the development of climate targets, and the evaluation of savings potential, e.g. in the SBTi process. At FfE, we actively develop such methods and assist your company through training, data provision (e.g., via the premise tool), and prospective assessments.

We place great emphasis on building methodological expertise directly within your company. To this end, we offer insights into our modeling as well as hands-on training and workshops on developing PCFs and LCAs.
