“Unlocking V2G Potential: From Hurdles to Solutions”
Recommendations For Action For Policymakers And The Federal Network Agency For A Successful Ramp-Up Of Bidirectional Charging – Project Consortium Of Automotive Manufacturers And Electricity Grid Operators Presents Relevant Levers For The Ramp-Up Of Bidirectional Charging
With the successful completion of the study “Unlocking V2G Potential: From Hurdles to Solutions,” a practical implementation roadmap is now available that suggests concrete recommendations for the rapid market ramp-up of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology. The study identified key barriers and potential added value of V2G as a base to derive a structured set of solutions. The project was carried out by the Forschungsstelle für Energiewirtschaft (FfE) on behalf of Amprion, Bayernwerk Netz, the BMW Group, EWE Netz, Mercedes-Benz Group, and TransnetBW.
The study focuses on a roadmap with eleven concrete proposals for solutions, addressed to political decision-makers (including the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy), the Federal Network Agency, relevant standardization bodies, and grid operators. The recommendations were prioritized according to their significance and implementation time in order to derive targeted measures for the coming years.
One example of a proposed solution addressed to the Federal Network Agency is the use of flexible connection agreements (FCAs) for connection customers with bidirectionally chargeable vehicles in order to enable a temporary reimbursement of the grid fee for temporarily stored electricity. Another proposed solution for policymakers is, for example, the introduction of experimental spaces through experimental clauses to enable cost recognition for innovative approaches – such as a hybrid redispatch regime – within a defined framework.
The study contributes to the clarification of open regulatory, normative, and technical issues and provides a basis for information and decision-making for policymakers and regulators. The aim is to create the framework conditions for systematically and comprehensively exploiting the potential of bidirectional charging.
