Flexibilization of industrial self-generation – potentials for grid relief at distribution grid level

In many regions of Germany, high fluctuating electricity generation from photovoltaics poses major challenges, especially for distribution grids. The supply-dependent generation often deviates from the actual consumption. As an alternative for the necessary grid expansion measures, this et article analyzes the flexible operation of the industrial power plant at the UPM site in Plattling to relieve the Bayernwerk distribution grid.

Figure 1: Influence of flexibilization on the region.

The analyses were carried out together with Bayernwerk and UPM. The press release on the project can be found here.
