Communication at the interface of the energy and automotive industries: the unIT-e² glossary

In the project unIT-e² Living Lab for integrated E-Mobility, the automotive and electricity sectors come together, which historically had only limited touchpoints. It was not until the increasing electrification of motor vehicles and the accompanying rise in the number of electric vehicles in Germany that touchpoints between the sectors emerged and thus the need for a common language for targeted communication between the industries. The unIT-e² glossary intends to provide support here and create a common understanding.

Definitions of terms from the context of the energy and automotive industries

The unIT-e² consortium comprises four vehicle manufacturers and seven network operators or energy suppliers, as well as other partners from component manufacturing, IT, and science, so the need for a common language is all the greater here. For this reason, a glossary was created to provide a united linguistic understanding of the most important terms used in the energy and automotive industries. Specifically, the glossary addresses the topics of the energy and automotive industry as well as the technical components and protocols used in these fields. The unIT-e² glossary thus contains a total of 77 definitions of terms – from aggregator to IEC standard to charging station.

A common understanding as the basis for successful cooperation in the project

This glossary aims to explain and define important terms from the environment of unIT-e². In this way, the terms from the context of the energy industry and electric vehicles are described clearly and concisely. This is intended to help ensure uniform wording in the consortium and create a common understanding. However, there is no claim that this document will provide a complete legal, regulatory and technical definition of the individual terms. In the course of the project, this glossary will be continuously supplemented.
