Challenges and Solutions for Integrating Large-Scale Battery Storage into Distribution Grids

Together with Bayernwerk Netz, FfE has published an article in the journal Energiewirtschaftliche Tagesfragen (Issue 7–8/2025). The article highlights the growing importance of grid-neutral integration of large-scale battery storage systems. Driven by market dynamics as storage deployment accelerates, the demands on grid operators are also increasing—particularly when integrating storage into already heavily utilized distribution grids.

The article discusses various approaches to grid-neutral operation of battery storage, outlines the associated technical and economic challenges, and presents results from a simulation study.
