Cooperation Forum Electrification of Industry

Electrification and Hybridization of Industry

The core business of many companies, and thus the economic performance of German industry, depends largely on the commitment to additional grid connection capacities. An secure power supply is equally crucial. This increasingly relies on the availability of renewable energy sources, which can be planned and invested in with confidence. However, the planning horizons of industry and grid operators differ significantly.

In the cooperation forum, the FfE, together with the participating companies, energy suppliers, and grid operators, systematically records the challenges of increasing electrification, scarce grid connections, and future electricity supply. This means that not every company has to work through the topics individually – instead, we strengthen each other. The results are summarized, for example, in practical guides or discussion papers.

Key Areas of Action

The cooperation forum focused on five key areas of action:

  • Grid connection and integration: Clear processes for rapid capacity increases.
  • Technologies and strategies: Electrification of processes and process heat
  • Energy and CO2 prices: Prerequisite for planning security and economic efficiency
  • Challenges in switching energy sources: Removing practical obstacles
  • Energy flexibility: Leveraging the added value of electrification and tapping into revenue potential.

The forum was designed as a practical, solution-oriented format.

The methodological approach

The methodological approach includes:

  • Structured exchange: In-depth, research-based analyses of current issues by the FfE contribute to the development of potential solutions.
  • Scientific support: We contribute to solution‑finding through in‑depth, research‑based analyses of current issues.
  • Developing solutions from diverse components: Our aim is to develop solutions that are supported by a majority of the participating companies.

In addition, we are engaged in dialogue with regulatory decisionmakers. The cooperation forum ‘Electrification of Logistics’ is supported by the associations vbw and BDEW.
