Project launch: CCUS development paths: What role will carbon management and CO₂ removal (CDR) play in the future?
Carbon management and carbon dioxide removal (CDR) are important building blocks on the path to climate neutrality, both in the IPCC report and according to current strategies of the EU and the German federal government. However, the extent to which and the costs of implementing such measures still need to be clarified.
Together with Bayernwerk, Gunvor Raffinerie Ingolstadt, RWE and Stadtwerke Rosenheim, Forschungsgesellschaft für Energiewirtschaft mbH (FfE) is therefore launching the ‘CCUS Development Pathways’ project. In a holistic scenario, the focus is on carbon management in the various sectors of industry and the energy industry. The scenario takes into account the current trends and framework conditions of the respective transformation paths. The available technologies for CO₂ capture are classified in relation to other GHG reduction measures as well as other CDR methods, taking into account the entire CCUS value chain.
„Carbon management is a highly topical and much-discussed issue. I am very pleased that we are able to conduct a scenario analysis in this project together with our corporate partners to find out what significance these technologies can actually have in the medium to long term for achieving climate targets. Neutral. Independent. Science-based.“

We look forward to the joint project!
