Kick-Off of the Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection Network binkEN – Working Together for more Climate Protection in Bavaria’s Cultural Institutions

The Kick-Off of the binkEN Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection Network marks the beginning of a new phase of climate protection for 13 Bavarian cultural institutions in cooperation with the FfE.

Cultural institutions such as theaters and museums face unique challenges with regards to energy efficiency and climate protection: protected historical buildings, complex organizational structures, and individual technical requirements for the preservation of exhibits. binkEN aims to face these challenges as the first energy efficiency and climate protection network specifically tailored for the culture in Bavaria.

The network was initiated by bink and the Bavarian Ministry for Science and Arts. The FfE organizes and runs binkEN in the roles of network moderator and energy consultants, along with support from IfE GmbH as additional energy consultants. The goal of the network is the accelerated knowledge transfer between and to the participants via expert technical input and moderated exchange. In turn, energy management in the participating institutions will become more structured, improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions.

The network Kick-Off was held on September 17th 2025 at the Bavarian State Museum of Egyptian Art. Representatives of the participating institutions came together, getting to know one another for the first time as well as initiating first exchanges of experiences regarding shared topics and planning the further course of the binkEN network. Up next are individual site visits by the energy-technical consultants to each institution in turn, during which the current energy consumption will be analyzed, measures for improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions will be identified, and a goal to be pursued over the course of the network until the end of 2027 will be set.

During the course of the network, quarterly workshops provide opportunities for capacity building and the exchange of experiences and ideas. The participants will receive support for their technical and organizational challenges as well as new input via expert presentations to their chosen topics. binkEN sends a clear message that climate protection is possible in theaters, museums, and concert venues – together and hands-on.
