Decarbonization options and paths for the Saxon economy

On behalf of the Saxon Energy Agency (SAENA) and the Saxon State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport (SMWA), FfE is working with the Institute for Climate Protection, Energy and Mobility (IKEM) to develop decarbonization options and paths for the Saxon economy.

Based on a broad company survey of the status quo by the Technical University of Dresden (TU Dresden), the available technologies for decarbonizing the key sectors of the Saxon economy are being prepared and evaluated with regard to technical, economic and regulatory framework conditions. This will result in overarching scenarios of what the transformation of the Saxon economy could realistically look like, as well as sector-specific and practical technology profiles. These are intended to serve as an information aid to support Saxon companies, energy suppliers and grid operators in order to facilitate the implementation of the transformation and initiate the necessary interaction processes. The target image ultimately shows a sustainable and competitive Saxon economy.

FfE is contributing its techno-economic expertise on the decarbonization of industry. This comes both from practical experience in industrial energy management and from scientific research and consultancy projects.

“I am looking forward to this project with great anticipation, as we are bringing theory and practice together. We will show at political altitude how the industrial turnaround in Saxony can succeed and at the same time provide Saxon companies with practical support materials so that the gap between the target image and reality can be closed by implementing concrete measures,” says Dr. Andrej Guminski, Member of the Management Board of FfE .

In the project, IKEM is responsible for developing and presenting the legal framework conditions that must be observed when implementing transformation projects, particularly with regard to the upstream grid infrastructure.

“I am delighted to be part of this forward-looking project. We are helping to shape the legal framework for the transformation and support companies in using climate protection as an opportunity for innovation and competitiveness – for a climate-friendly and sustainable Saxony.” – Susan Wilms, Member of the Management Board of IKEM.

We are looking forward to an exciting project together!
