75 years of FfE – anniversary celebration in Berlin
FfE celebrated its 75th anniversary at its second company location in Berlin, highlighting the importance of the capital as the political center of Germany. Berlin serves as a central economic and innovation hub, especially in the energy sector. This location enables FfE to maintain close connections to politics and practice, effectively translating research results into innovative solutions.
Ceremonial Speeches
The speeches by Prof. Dr. Florian Bieberbach, Chairman of the Management Board of Stadtwerke München GmbH and President of FfE; Dr. Kirsten Westphal, Managing Director of BDEW; and Prof. Dr. Aaron Praktiknjo, Chairman of the Board of GEE, emphasized the importance of research, practical relevance, and innovation for the transformation of our energy supply.
Festive awarding of the Helmut Schaefer Prize
After the speeches and culinary refreshments, the Helmut Schaefer Prize was awarded as part of the 75th anniversary of the Forschungsstelle für Energiewirtschaft in Berlin. This prize honors excellent master’s theses in energy economics and technology, as well as the lifetime achievements of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Helmut Schaefer, a prominent advocate of energy efficiency. Six finalists presented their innovative work to an expert audience. The Helmut Schaefer Committee, consisting of Dr.-Ing. Serafin von Roon and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Mauch, evaluated the presentations.
Katharina Sommer was awarded the prize for her work, “Analysis of the Status Quo and Transformation Pathways of International Air and Shipping Traffic in Europe.” Steffen Brundiers impressed the jury with his work, “Conceptual Design and Dynamic Modeling of Large-Scale Hydrogen Energy Storage Systems.” Their commitment and innovative approaches make a significant contribution to the future of the energy industry.
We congratulate all participants on their outstanding achievements!
Naturally, this was followed by a festive celebration to mark the 75th anniversary of the Forschungsstelle für Energiewirtschaft (FfE), which paid tribute to this significant milestone. Together with prominent guests from politics, business, and research, we celebrated the achievements of the past decades while also looking ahead to the future of the energy sector. We seized this opportunity to celebrate our successes, share memories, and prepare for the upcoming challenges and opportunities that FfE faces at its locations in Berlin and Munich.
We are optimistic about the next 75 years. At a time when the global challenges of climate change and the energy transition are increasing, we aim to continue driving innovation in a humble and professional manner. In doing so, we support the development of future-proof technologies to make a sustainable contribution to energy supply.
